“WHO AM I????!!!”
Art and conversation.
I have 2 favorite artists in the entire world. Salvador Dali and Norman Rockwell. Both for very different reasons of course. I love the fantasy in Dali, but I love the conversations being had in Norman Rockwell’s art. Each of his illustrations contain some form of commentary as if they were a real time snapshot of that person’s life. Conversation. It is a wonderfully expansive concept to put in your work. Often, when I am stuck in a series of work I will flip through my book of Rockwell’s art and remember that every figure in motion is having some form of dialogue with the environment around it. From there all I have to do is figure out what I want to say.
As I began to move further along in my artistic musings, my love of fantasy and the absurd began to combine with my appreciation for conversation. Most of my work (while odd and unusual) will have a combination the two. I try to keep the conversation slightly vague because I adore the fact that each person will glean a different story from the same piece of art. For what is art without the conversation?
